Video: Install Firefox Toolbar
Friday, March 30th, 2007

This movie requires flash version 8 or better.

Hi. I’m Barbara Feldman, and today’s video topic is how to install and use the Sharing Links Firefox toolbar. But we are going start at the end, because first I want to show you the toolbar, and then I will show you how to install it.

The Toolbar consists of two buttons and a function on the right-click context menu. The first button (this SL button ) will take you directly to your bookmarks, so they are always a single click away.

The second button (the sharing links kid) will pop up an add bookmark window, making it easy as pie to add a bookmark from anywhere on the Net. Here’s a little secret… whatever you highlight will go directly into your description field.

The last part of the toolbar is the right-click context menu, which is for those of us too lazy to move our mouse all the way to the buttons on top. It is called “Bookmark at Sharing Links” and it does the same as the second button .. It opens an add bookmark window. And of course, the highlighted text trick works here too. Whatever you highlight will be added to the description. To install the toolbar, open Firefox and go to sharinglinks.com/toolbars. Scroll down to Firefox Toolbar, and click “install the add-on.”  You probably will get a security warning near the top of your browser  Click “Edit Options,” “Allow” and “Close.”  Now click “install add-on” for a second time.  Now restart Firefox, and when the browser re-opens you will see your two buttons.

Video: Installing Sharing Links Toolbar in Internet Explorer
Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

This movie requires flash version 8 or better.

Today’s video topic is how to install and use the Sharing Links Internet Explorer toolbar. But we are going start at the end, because first I want to show you the toolbar, and then I will show you how to install it.

The Toolbar consists of two buttons and a function on the right-click context menu.

The first button (the SL button) will take you directly to your Sharing Links bookmarks, so they are always a single click away.

The second button (the Sharing Links kid) will pop up an add bookmark window, making it easy as pie to add a bookmark from anywhere on the Net. Here’s a little secret… whatever you highlight on the page you want to bookmark will go directly into your description field.

The last part of the toolbar is the right-click context menu, which is for those of us too lazy to move our mouse all the way to the buttons on the top of the browser. It is called “Bookmark at Sharing Links…” and it does the same as the second Sharing Links kid button. It opens an add bookmark window. And of course, the highlighted text trick works here too. Whatever you highlight will be added to the description.

To install the toolbar, open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.sharinglinks.com/toolbars. Click on Internet Explorer Toolbar … and choose SAVE, SAVE, then RUN, RUN, NEXT, INSTALL, FINISH.
You might need to restart Internet Explorer at this point, and then you’ll see your two Sharing Links buttons and the right-click context menu function.

And that’s it! Enjoy!

Video: How to Install Bookmarklet into Firefox
Friday, February 9th, 2007

This movie requires flash version 8 or better.

Adding new bookmarks to SharingLinks while you are surfing is as easy as clicking your mouse.

But before you can use this one-click method, you need to drag one of our bookmarklets to your browser toolbar. But that’s easy too, and I’m going to show you how.

To find the bookmarklets, go to “Add a Bookmark” and scroll down about mid-page to “Bookmarklets.” There are two bookmarklets: one will open SharingLinks in a pop-up window and the other will open SharingLinks in your current window. I like the pop-one better, and I bet you will too. But you can always add both, and try them yourself.

To install a bookmarklet, simply drag (keeping the mouse button depressed) the bookmarklet to the Bookmark Toolbar at top of your browser. You will know you are in the correct place when you see the cursur turn into this little arrow and box thingy.

That’s it!

Now, I will show you how easy it is to use.

Let’s say you at CNN.com, and decide this is a site that needs to be bookmarked. Simply Click the “Post to Sharing Links” link we just installed, then write a description, add a few tags, and click “Add Bookmark.:

Here’s an important tip. You can make bookmarking easier by being choosing “Don’t ask for my password for 2 weeks” when you login. This will prevent you from having to re-enter your password while bookmarking and surfing.

Video: How to Copy Bookmarks from Internet Explorer
Sunday, February 4th, 2007

This movie requires flash version 8 or better.

Today’s video topic is how to copy your existing Internet Explorer Favorites into Sharing Links. The process consists of two steps:

* First an export from IE
* Then an import into Sharing Links

Open Internet Explorer then click File, Import and Export. This opens the Import/Export Wizard.

From here, click Next, then choose Export Favorites (and Next.)

Internet Exlorer lets you choose whether you want to export ALL your favorites (select Favorites) or any of your folders. We are going to choose a single folder titled “Squished Pennies.”

Now, we need to choose where we want to save the file (by default it is called bookmark.htm). Be sure to remember WHERE you put this file, because we are going to need it in the next step.

Now, visit http://www.sharinglinks.com/importbrowser/ . (If you forget where you need to go on this step, you’ll find it on the HELP page and on the Add Bookmark Page.)

Click Browse to find your saved bookmark.htm file.

Add tags to apply to imported links. Check Use Folder Names as Tags if your bookmarks are organized in folders.  If you import a single folder (without any sub-folders), you can not use the feature. You must have both a “Parent Folder” and a “Child Folder” in order to use the “Child Folder” names as tags.

Select your privacy option (we recommend Public whenever possible) and it a few seconds you will be redirected to your My Bookmarks page.

Now is a good time to add tags. Click Edit, and add tags or re-use existing tags by clicking on previously used tags.
