Finally, I have an update for you.
Based on more than 360 survey responses about how my readers use bookmarks and favorites, I developed a site where we can post our own bookmarks (either privately or publicly) and access them from any computer, anywhere.
In addition to the being able to access our bookmarks and favorites from both home and work, the site is a wonderful community to share our favorite links with each other. And so, I named it:
SharingLinks.com
The site is nearly complete, but now I need your help. Will you be one of the first users? Will you try the website and tell me what you think? If your answer is “Yes,” you will need to sign up for the mailing list, in order to get your Invitation Code.
As a community site, SharingLinks.com needs users, not just visitors. I hope you will join us, but at this time SharingLinks.com is limited to INVITATION ONLY users, so you will need your invitation code to sign up.
P.S. Have you received your Invitation Code and tried the SharingLinks.com site? If so, please post your comments here.
Feel free to leave a comment.

Barbara,
I’m so excited about your sharing links web site. I immediately uploaded my IE7 bookmarks, but I also have bookmarks on Firefox - different ones. Do I need to add them one at a time? I can’t seem to find a way to add them the way I did with IE.
I work on several different computers in several different locations. This web site will be a wonderful tool. Thank you so much!
Seems easy enough, but not sure yet about switching from Delicious, I will use it this week and post in the blog again.
Firefox bookmarks can also be added. You will find instructions and a video here:
http://blog.sharinglinks.com/video-how-to-export-bookmarks-from-firefox/26/
My bookmarks on my home computer are categorized by type: School, Information, weather, storytelling, etc.
When they were imported into ShareLinks, most lost their categories, so it is an unorganized list, making it difficult to find websites that do not have the category in the title.
Some of the websites grouped together as one website and clicking on them only pulls up the first website in the grouping.
My websites are public, so you shoulc be able to see them yourself.
I found it easy to upload bookmarks, as I have them related to education. I hope to add more bookmarks and upload more in the near future.
Anne
I have a range of bookmarks in Excel on my site - can these be imported for all to share?
Kept losing the tags for my links and having favourite tags put instead- system needs to allow either local or global tags to be shown with a click.
Presentation of tags could be slicker - have a look at Tabmarks www.tabmarks.com
>>I have a range of bookmarks in Excel on my site - can these be imported for all to share?
Yes..I will work on a set of instructions for this!
>>system needs to allow either local or global tags to be shown with a click.
Directly below the Add Bookmark form, you should see a display of YOUR popular tags. If you are a new user, you will not see tags here, but as you start using SharingLinks, you will get “one click” access to your most popular tags.
I posted just a few of my preschool websites. It was easy to do and I look forward to finding links from others!
Thanks
Hi BF,
Does one have to have install IE 7, in order to install your SL Toolbar?
Because I’m NOT using IE 7.
I attempted to install the SL toolbar in IE. But the 2 Buttons didn’t appear.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
J Nobel
Hi Barbar,
Please ignore the 2 previous emails/comments from moi!
I have the SL Toolbar Install & working!
To this point in time the SL Web Site is A-OK! Everything is functioning FINE!
(Except for me from time to time!)
Thank You!
Joel Nobel
The Site is Terrific!

So far, so good. I was able to access it easily. Tomorrow I will move links to try it out.
Thank you, Barbara. You are a tech leader…

Very easy upload of bookmarks. I didn’t realize that my elaborate system of folders wouldn’t import, so I’m not sure how to find the ones I regularly use. It’ll be a huge job to “tag” them all! Once I get them tagged, though, it will be great.
It seemed harder than necessary to figure out how to upload my links. Maybe a “new to the site start here” button would help. I was floundering. I like the idea and i think it will be nice to have mostly (I hope) educational links. Thanks.

Kathy, here’s a Getting Started link for you:

Very exciting! I can see how this could enable more teachers to make use of the internet. I hope users will make liberal use of level indicators. Comment: The ‘send report‘ refers to inappropriate content; what about notification of “dead” links? As this builds in volume, is there any benefit to being able to add tags without copying? (realizing this would not put it on one’s personal list but would benefit access by all without adding to a long list of users and one could still locate by a search.
I love the search feature. I guess my main complaint (if you could call it that) would be that my bookmarks are no longer organized in their folders. I can see, though, where I could go into each one and create tags. I guess I will have to find the time for that!
Thanks!
The more I use this system, the better it seems to come - great to see all the links from everyone else popping up with key words.
What does report this link do? I reported a couple of links that I thought you’d made public by mistake (gateways to syndication portals) but there was no option to leave a reason why I’d reported them.
How about a translation service between american school levels and UK ones so that keywords are synchronised - so pre-K = Foundation Stage (FS), KS1 = ? (5 to 7 year olds)
KS2 = ? (8 to 11 year olds)
Yes, I did receive your REPORT THIS LINK. Thank you… I also received a REPORT on a broken link.
My thoughts at the moment about bad links is to make them private…. so the don’t disappear for the user, but are not in the public database.
Yes,,, please point me to resources about UK grade levels, so we can put some info up about that.
Thank you for all your work. It’s really coming along nicely now.
I don’t know if it was an individual glitch or a bug, but I had to upload my bookmarks twice before I was able to see them on the site.
WHat a wonderful idea! I can’t wait to have time to really use it! Hooray and Thanks to you!
The website looks very exciting. My husband and I have three grandchildren: one pre-pube and the other five-year old twins (by and girl). We spend a lot of time trying to make learning as much fun for them as it is for us. I can hardly wait to get started on the materials on the site!
Best wishes,
Judy Di
I am new to this whole Idea, I am not even sure what I will do with it yet, but I am always looking for ways to enchance my technical skills. Thanks, Susan Roth
This is so exciting and easy to use. The best part is I don’t have to locate all the sites myself. It is great to know that I am not the only one gathering sites for kids. I just hope I can be of some help to others. Thanks.
Nice one. i am about to try and try to get used to it since i am newbie in bookmark-thing
It’s a good idea. I’ll try to use it as much a possible.
Very easy to use and sophisticated. Love it!!
